Abby went for her second endoscopy yesterday and we left with 2 pieces of news. The good news is that the ulcerations in her esophagus are healing well and are less inflamed. Vet has also removed her feeding tube and put her back on oral feed to get her esophagus working after such a long break. The bad news is the vet found ulcers in her stomach.
This piece of news came as a shock to us as there were no signs from Abby at all. She has always been feeding well, was fed well ... even during her tube-feeding days, she eats up to 4 meals a day. The vet said that the ulcers could have started during the few days when she couldn't eat due to the bone lodged in her esophagus , and her condition could have been worsened by the stress she experienced throughout her ordeal...
When Abby tasted her first dinner last night after being tube-fed for 2 weeks, I could feel her joy and excitement. I couldn't help smiling just watching her lick her food dish clean, wiping every bit of food from her mouth and the look in her eyes asking "Any more food?". Until I realised that she was tearing. She teared again when I fed her her second meal, her third meal...in fact, she teared after every meal. She can't tell me where she hurts, how much she is hurting...but the fact that she actually teared so much is enough for me to know how bad is her pain. And each time I see her tear, I can only hug her and cry with her...
